Information About Climate Sensors at SNOTEL Sites

Standard Configuration for an Enhanced SNOTEL Site:

  • Wind Speed & Wind Direction - (Sensor Model: RM Young 05103) - Measured every 60 seconds, output as hourly average (wind speed and direction) and hourly maximum (wind speed only)
  • Solar Radiation - (Sensor Model: LI 200X) - Measured every 60 seconds, output as hourly average and hourly maximum
  • Relative Humidity - (Sensor Model: HMP 45C) - Measured every 60 seconds, output as hourly average
  • Air Temperature - (Sensor Model: HMP 45C) - Measured every 60 seconds, output as hourly average and daily maximum, minimum, and average
  • Soil Moisture & Soil Temperature - (Sensor Model: Vitel Hydra Probe)  - Measured every 60 seconds, output every 6 hours as current (not averaged) value

Other Sensors Installed at SNOTEL Sites:

  • Tipping Bucket - (Sensor Model: Texas Inst.)  - Totaled hourly
  • Barometric Pressure - (Sensor Model: CS105) - Output hourly as current (not averaged) value
