NRCS Announces Wetlands Reserve Program Second Application Deadline in Oregon
Producers located in NRCS Oregon High Desert Basin are encouraged to apply

PORTLAND, ORE., Aug 01, 2012 - August 10, 2012 is the 2nd application deadline for the Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP) in Klamath, Lake and Harney counties, USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) announced today.

WRP assists eligible applicants in the restoration, protection and enhancement of wetlands on their property in a voluntary, environmentally safe and cost-effective manner. Landowners receive assistance through three program participation options: 10-year restoration cost-share agreements; 30-year conservation easements; or permanent easements. Under the permanent easement option NRCS pays 100 percent of wetland restoration costs.

According to Acting State Conservationist, Drenda Williams “while the Wetlands Reserve Program is offered as a continuous sign-up, landowners interested in receiving 2012 funding should turn in an application to their local USDA-NRCS service center office before August 10, 2012”.
